Apple Crumble

Whenever I am at my grandparents’ house, I always make this apple crumble with my grandma. My grandpa and brother would wait eagerly for us to finish baking it so we could eat it while playing Rummikub. The apples are so sweet in this dessert. It is very fun to make the dough. This apple crumble will bake up in no time, perfect for family gatherings or just eating it yourself! Baking the apple crumble will be a wonderful addition to your lazy cozy Saturday. I always eat this dessert with a mug of peppermint tea. So, what are you waiting for? Let’s start making this already!

The Recipe

And now, I present you with the list of ingredients and materials! For the dough, you will need 2 cups all-purpose flour or 1-to-1 ratio gluten-free flour; 1/2 cup sugar; a pinch of salt; 11 tbsp (150 grams) unsalted butter; and orange zest from one navel orange, divided. For the filling, you need 5 to 7 medium to large Granny Smith apples; 1/2 tsp cinnamon; and juice from one lemon.

Your materials needed are a clean countertop; a large bowl; a knife; an apple peeler and corer (you can also use a knife for this); and a 9-by-13 Pyrex dish.

Toss dry ingredients on the counter
Be careful! Flour can get everywhere

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Pour flour, sugar, and salt onto a clean countertop and mix with your hands until combined.

Add butter and orange zest
This is my favorite step!

Add the butter and 3/4 of the orange zest. Mix with your hands until no large chunks remain and the flour is spread throughout. The dough should take the form of small pebbles. Do not clump the dough together; leave it as is on the counter.

Chop apples; mix them with other ingredients
Chop up the apples! You can save the peel for a yummy snack!

Peel, core, and cut the apples into approximately 1-inch cubes. Place the apples in the bowl. Sprinkle with lemon juice, cinnamon, and the remaining orange zest. Toss with a spoon.

Place in pan
Almost done!

Place half of the dough in your 9-by-13 Pyrex dish. Spread it evenly on the bottom of the pan, then pat it down. Add your apple mixture and distribute it evenly on top of the dough. Then, sprinkle the other half of the dough on top of the apples Make sure every apple has some dough on it.
